Vacuum Forming

This was a project to learn the techniques of heat moulding of plastics with vacuum forming. We decided as a group to replicate the famous Jason mask popularized in the movie Friday the 13th using a polyurethane positive mould and polystyrene for the mask.

At this point we decided to create only cavities for the eyes and to leave other holes for a drill after the mask shape has been formed in the vacuum.
Shown first is the result of a sheet of Polystyrene that has been heated, lowered and vacuumed formed over the mould we made. Next is the process of drilling through on the marked holes with the mould underneath to prevent cracking of the plastic.
