For the first edition of the "787 Arts Nights", I wanted to communicate the idea of a multi-medium event that invites all who want to make and enjoy the work of my friends and I in an inviting way. By randomly clicking around orange in the colour grid until I found one orange that I found warm and inviting, I was able to then use Adobe Illustrator's Tetrad palette maker to find the rest of the colours and use them to unify the poster.
Edition number two was founded on the idea of expanding on our first experiment. We tried to gather even more artists and more attendees, which proved to be popular enough for the by-law officers to come enjoy as well.
Because I wanted to communicate the idea of a collection of ideas from a range of artists, all unified for an event I aimed to gather all similar medium artists together. The slanted bars represented an idea of wrapping posters or tape around a poll in a sort of chaotic yet fun way. As I further developed the appearance I added drop shadow effects on these bars to give the poster depth and reinforce the visual idea of layering and bringing your own styles to an existing backdrop, just like the event itself.
Along with the branding of the venue "Bar Robo" in Ottawa's Chinatown, I wanted to create a playful futuristic space themed poster that drew the eye to the well known logo of Bar Robo at a focal point relative to the important information of the event.
Process for colours and visual flow along with hierarchy of information.
We also wanted to promote this event through Facebook and Instagram, so I adjusted the sizing, orientations and layouts to be optimized for a Facebook event header (left) and an Instagram Post (right).
Above is my visual interpretation of the laid-back nature and setting of this free music event in the Wellington West village of Ottawa.
